Ethical Day Trekking Options

We have a variety of options for travelers looking to trek for one day in the jungle surrounding Bukit Lawang. We offer half day trekking or full day trekking in the Gunung Leuser national park. We also offer day trekking to see the world's biggest flower- Rafflesia Flower Treks    

Half Day Trekking (4 hours)

Price list

1 person- 80 Euros

2 -8 people- 45 Euros per person  

Itinerary

This half day trek is designed for those with time restrictions, or those less able to walk for a long time, while still allowing you to experience the jungle and see Sumatran Orangutans. The start time of the trek is flexible, however we recommend to start at 9am to be able to enjoy more wildlife and to avoid the heat of the day. Our guide will come and meet you at your hotel in Bukit Lawang and you will start your walk together towards the entrance to the Gunung Leuser national park. After entering the national park, you will have the chance to see both wild and semi-wild orangutans. You will take some time to explore the buffer zone of the rainforest, discovering a variety of wildlife and stopping to learn about flowers and medicinal plants. 

You will have time to stop and enjoy a fresh fruit platter.  By 13.00m we will return back to Bukit Lawang.

Itinerary

Our guide will arrive at your hotel in Bukit Lawang at 08.30 am to meet and brief you on your trek. By 09.00am you will have set off to walk to the entrance to the Gunung Leuser national park. After you enter, you will arrive into the area with many wild and semi-wild orangutans. You will have the chance to observe the orangutans while you guide shares information with you. You will continue walking through the jungle stopping to learn about many interesting features that make up this diverse ecosystem. As well as seeing many wild animals, you will also have the opportunity to learn about giant ants, termites, medicinal plants, flowers, tiny sting-less bees, Sumatra's endemic wildlife. 

You will stop on the way for a fresh fruit platter, as well as a lunch of 'nasi goreng' (local fried rice, omelette and salad)

After lunch you will start to descend down towards the river. This allows another great opportunity to spot wild animals feeding or drinking the cool water. You will pass by a small waterfall, where you can stop and swim and refresh.  By 3pm you will have started your raft ride back to the town of Bukit Lawang.
